With its default returns functionality, Shopify allows merchants to select return reasons from a pre-configured list of options. But it does not let merchants customize this list, or create custom return policies based on the return reason.
This is where ReturnZap comes in. ReturnZap provides flexibility to define your own return reasons and create powerful return routing rules based on these reasons. Here's how.
To view your current return reasons and make changes, navigate to the ReturnZap settings page from within the ReturnZap app by going to Settings > Return Policy > Configure Return Policy.
At the bottom of the page, you can see the return reasons that are currently configured on your store. ReturnZap comes configured with several return reasons by default:
These should provide a great foundation as you create your own returns workflows.
For each return reason, you have the option to specify whether image upload is disabled (default), optional or required. This is useful in conjunction with the ReturnZap approval workflow, where you can require customers to upload photo proof of certain return conditions before approving a return and generating a return label.
Modifying the default return reasons is easy. ReturnZap users can edit existing reasons, archive existing reasons, and create new return reasons.
To edit the name of an existing return reasons, simply click within the text box, make your changes, and click to save on the banner ribbon that appears at the top of the page.
Likewise, to archive an old return rule, check the box marked "Archive" and save using the ribbon that appears at the top of the page. ReturnZap archives return reasons and does not delete in order to preserve reporting functionality for historical returns.
To add a new return, click the button marked "Add new return reason", type in the name of your reason, and hit save on the banner ribbon.
These return reasons can now be used to define custom return rules. Learn more about creating custom return rules using ReturnZap.
